"Straight from the Heart" Interview Series: Anne Uebelacker
Anne Uebelacker is a mother, wife, and a professional square dance caller. She has been attending Circle Creek Therapy for voice therapy for the past two years. Anne has traveled all over the world for her profession, and we have very much enjoyed helping her do more of what she loves.
Her life has a very unique story, and we couldn't help but to want to interview her, because we know that you will love Anne as much as we do!
What are some things that you like to do?
"I love my job, dancing, traveling, and spending time with my German Shepherd puppy. His name is Regal, and I take him on walks with my wife."
Can you explain your profession to us?
"I am a professional square dance caller and I travel all over the world to do this. I have been to countries all across Europe, America, and Asia. I can travel and still call square dances because square dancing has its own language. I choreograph dances to the music, then I go and teach the dances in Seattle. I don't use typical songs like "doe see doe" either. Sometimes I even throw in a little Metallica because it will work if it has a 4/4 beat."
What does your typical day look like?
"When I am at home, I get up early and walk my dog with my wife. We have season tickets to the Sounders, and to the women's NCAA basketball games; we love going to those games. Everyday I write choreography for at least two hours, and I am very diligent about that. I am very active, and I have a very fun life that I love."
Where is your favorite place that you have traveled for your job?
"Tokyo. I have been there about 15 or 16 times. I love going there because everyone is so kind, and they make themselves understood. One time I was lost and some stranger showed me where I needed to be. Even though it was fifteen minutes away, she still walked me there and helped me out."
What are some things that you have learned from therapy at Circle Creek Therapy?
"I learned about soft-onset. The exercises and the breather tool has also been helpful."
"I decided to do a procedure with my ENT where he will inject Botox into my vocal cords. Every three months, I have to get this procedure done. Technically, I do not have to come to Circle Creek anymore, but I decided to still come to help maintain my voice and because I love working with Maria and Courtni."
How would you describe your experience at Circle Creek Therapy?
"It's like family. Courtni told me at the beginning that she didn't know at first how she was going to help me, but she said that she would try. When I usually tell people that I am a professional square dance caller, they don't take me seriously. But once I told Courtni, she seemed to be interested from the beginning, which I appreciated."
"My progress has improved since coming here, and I would definitely recommend this place to others who are looking for voice therapy."
