Kristen: First off, PT does not stand for Physical Torture! :) Being a PTA means helping my patients get back to the things that they enjoy in life. I love seeing patients accomplish goals that they either didn't think they could ever do again or that they have been striving to reach. What I Wish People Knew About My Job as a Speech Language Pathologist
Maria: It's not all "speech" sound work like working on /s/ or /r/, although we do love articulation! Some clients work on their social skills (pragmatics) and participating meaningfully in conversations. Others work on voice disorders, or feeding/swallowing, or using language after a stroke.
